NMPD 2018 Showcase Design

March 2018

THE OBJECTIVE

I was so delighted when I found out my design was chosen for my program’s annual showcase! The New Media Production and Design(NMPD) program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology(SAIT) hosts an annual student showcase in April for the graduating students of that year. Each year, they ask students of the program to participate in a poster contest for the showcase. The winning design would be used for the showcase’s posters, signs, name tags, and invitations. As the winner of 2018’s showcase poster contest, I was grateful to have had the opportunity to design for my graduating year. It was wonderful to see my design being produced in real life and to see it around my school!

THE PROCESS

Most of the design work that needed to be done for showcase was print related. I was given bleed specifications and other printer specifications to work with on my design. I revised the poster I created to suit the school’s branding guidelines better, created signage for directions to the event, produced digital invitations, and designed the name tags for the students and instructors. Throughout the project, I was making sure my design was consistent; this included colours, lines, typography, spacing choices, and the presented information. Designing for showcase was like creating a brand identity for a client.
